As you can probably tell, I love music. So I chose to write about the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, and I even got to interview one of the school&#8217;s most talented professors &#8211; Daniel Bolshoy.<\/p>\n<p>The Hugh Hodgson School of Music is located on 250 River Road in the Performing Arts and Visual Complex at the University of Georgia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.courtneytee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/hodgson.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-56\" src=\"http:\/\/www.courtneytee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/hodgson-300x220.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.courtneytee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/hodgson-300x220.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.courtneytee.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/hodgson.jpg 483w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 5-story-wide building opened in <a href=\"http:\/\/music.uga.edu\/facilities-overview\">fall 1995.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The school is named after Hugh Hodgson, who was instrumental in establishing the <a href=\"https:\/\/musi.franklin.uga.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/Doc_Hodgson_History.pdf\">music program<\/a> at the University of Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Fine Arts and Music was established in 1928 after Hodgson became <a href=\"http:\/\/georgiainfo.galileo.usg.edu\/topics\/people\/article\/all\/hugh-hodgson\">the first music professor<\/a> at the university.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/musi.franklin.uga.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/Doc_Hodgson_History.pdf\">Four degree programs<\/a> in music were developed between 1930 and 1941, including the University of Georgia\u2019s first graduate music degree.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Georgia <a href=\"http:\/\/news.uga.edu\/releases\/article\/050203hodgsonmusicschool\/\">honored Hodgson<\/a> by naming the music program and building after him in 2005. It was called the School of Music prior to 2005.<\/p>\n<p>There are currently over <a href=\"https:\/\/musi.franklin.uga.edu\/about-us\">600 students and 65 faculty members<\/a> of the Hodgson School of Music.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Bolshoy, a music professor at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, teaches music courses such as Guitar for Beginners and Sophomore Applied Instruction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI discovered early that I really loved to teach even before I started teaching music,\u201d Bolshoy said.<\/p>\n<p>The Hugh Hodgson School of Music hosts approximately <a href=\"https:\/\/musi.franklin.uga.edu\/about-us\">350 public performances<\/a> each year.<\/p>\n<p>Some of these performances include the Fall Opera Production, the Choral Showcase and Holiday Concert Day.<\/p>\n<p>Bolshoy enjoys attending different concerts and events on campus throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI participate in a lot of the events that happen at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. I go to as many concerts as I can. It\u2019s fun because I love music. It\u2019s also nice to see my students and colleagues play,\u201d Bolshoy said.<\/p>\n<p>The Hugh Hodgson School of Music is home to over 100 pianos, soundproof practice rooms, chamber and large-ensemble rehearsal areas, a music library, three electronic music studios and <a href=\"http:\/\/music.uga.edu\/facilities-overview\">SMART-technology classrooms<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Hodgson Concert Hall seats <a href=\"http:\/\/music.uga.edu\/facilities-overview\">1,100 people<\/a> and is described as an \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/music.uga.edu\/facilities-overview\">acoustical gem.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bolshoy enjoys the different amenities that the school offers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe concert halls are really nice. We have three beautiful concert halls.
